Grace Giguiere and Michaela Decker both smacked home runs and combined for eight RBIs in Cabrillo College’s 10-6 Coast Conference South win over San Jose City College on Thursday in Aptos.

Jasmine Harrington picked up the win in a complete-game effort, allowing nine hits, six runs and six walks.

Jamie Sugimoto, Aaliyah Ramirez and Decker all scored two runs.

Cabrillo (6-15, 2-3) hosts Shasta in a double-header on Saturday. First game is at noon and the second is set for 2 p.m.

JC BASEBALL

• Cabrillo 11, Gavilan 6 – The Cabrillo College Seahawks beat Gavilan 11-6 on Thursday in Coast Conference Pacific play to notch their fifth straight victory.

Digger Gugale and Zach Thibaut both hit triples, while Jarius Richards, Easton Vidales, Adam Rossit and Sam Burns smacked doubles. Vidales was 4-for-6 with two RBIs. Thibaut finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three scored runs.

Clayton Andrews stole a pair of bases and score two runs.

Cabrillo (11-8, 2-0) travels to Monterey Peninsula College today at 1 p.m.

HS BASEBALL

• San Benito 5, Monte Vista Christian 1 – The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs lost 5-1 to San Benito on Thursday in Monterey Bay League Gabilan division action in Watsonville.

Jackson Collins hit a solo homer for the Mustangs (3-2, 0-2), who entered the seventh inning tied up at 1-1 with the Balers.

Dylan McPhillips allowed only one run and two hits before exiting the game. He finished with eight strikeouts.

• Watsonville 5, Seaside 0 – Gio Gonzalez tossed a complete-game no-hitter to lead the Watsonville Wildcatz past the Seaside Spartans to a 5-0 win in their Monterey Bay League Pacific division opener in Seaside.

Gonzalez struck out 11 batters and crossed home plate twice on offense, while JoJo Vargas belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning to ice it for Watsonville, which hosts Alisal on Monday at 7 p.m.

Ryan Rivera hit a double, scored a run and earned three walks.

HS SOFTBALL

• MVC 14, Santa Cruz 4 – Gianna Vanni was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a double at the plate and allowed only one hit through six innings in the circle to power the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs past the Santa Cruz Cardinals 14-4 on Thursday in non-league play.

Vanni struck out 10 and walked only one. Rachel Vanni was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a scored run. Mariah Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with three scored runs, a double and an RBI. Jessica Enriquez also doubled and Savannah Kraemer finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run.

MVC (5-3-1) plays at San Lorenzo Valley Tuesday at 4 p.m.

• Watsonville 3, SLV 1 – The Watsonville Wildcatz beat San Lorenzo Valley 3-1 on Thursday in Felton to improve to 6-0 on the preseason.

The Wildcatz are off until they travel to Aptos on March 17 for a 4 p.m. game.

BOY’S VOLLEYBALL

• Mt. Madonna 3, Scotts Valley 0 – Zach Wagner had 32 assists, Luca Peruzzi added eight kills and the Mt. Madonna Hawks swept the Scotts Valley Falcons, 25-9, 25-14, 25-11, in their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League opener on Wednesday.

Nate Vince also added eight kills for Mt. Madonna, which played at Pacific Collegiate School on Friday — the results to that game were not known before print — and travels to Aptos on Wednesday night.

• Aptos 3, Soquel 0 – Jayson Guy and Kacey Losik combined for 11 kills in the Aptos Mariners 25-10, 25-12, 25-15 sweep of the Soquel Knights on Wednesday night in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.

Michael Spinelli made 15 assists and Christian Segura had five aces for Aptos, which played at Scotts Valley on Friday — the results to that game were not known before print — and welcomes in Mt. Madonna on Wednesday in a big SCCAL match at 6:30 p.m.
