WATSONVILLE—Pajaro Valley Arts (PVA) will host a one-day conference on July 9 centered around the figure Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Attendees will explore the historic and cultural impact of the figure through readings, discussions and workshops.
Speakers include Seattle University professor Jeanette Rodriguez, who will discuss her Book “Our Lady of Guadalupe: Faith and Empowerment Among Mexican-American Women;” Jennifer Colby, CSUMB professor and art curator of over 30 exhibitions; poet and activist Naomi Helena Quinonez; and more.
Group workshops include Arpillera and Story-Telling, Soul Cards and Collage, Ex-Voto and Retablo Art, and Haciendo Cajas/Shadow Boxes.
The conference is co-sponsored by Cabrillo College and California Humanities and acts as a precursor to this year’s “Mi Casa es Tu Casa” exhibit, which opens at PVA on October 26.
