WATSONVILLE — Sofia Quintana Raya died peacefully surrounded by her family at a local nursing home on Sunday, July 2, 2017. She was 92.

Mrs. Raya was born to Manuel Quintana and Dolores Espinoza on March 2, 1925 at Puerta Del Monte, Salva Tierra, Guanajuato, Mexico. She resided in this community for 49 years. Before retiring, she worked for Driscoll’s Strawberry in general labor and as a strawberry picker for 18 years. Mrs. Raya lived by high standards, she was respectful, humble and honest, qualities that she engrained to her children. She was also a kind and loving person, always helping others in need. Above all, she loved her family.

She is survived by her son, Jose Raya; and daughter, Elvira Raya.

Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Monday, July 10 from 5-9 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at Assumption Church on Tuesday, July 11 at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Pioneer Cemetery.
