Motorcyclist dies after crash in Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ—A 29-year-old Capitola man was killed Thursday afternoon when he was involved in a multiple-vehicle collision while riding his motorcycle.

According to Santa Cruz Police Lt. Carter Jones, officers responded to a report of a collision on Mission Street at Fair Avenue around 4:43pm. The man was taken to Dominican Hospital, where he died from his injuries. His identity was withheld, pending notification of family.

All other people involved in the incident stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The victim, Omar Enriquez, was a volunteer from 2015-2019 at the Santa Cruz Sheriff Office’s Live Oak Service Center, sheriff’s spokeswoman Ashley Keehn said. He was hoping for a career in law enforcement.

“He will be missed by many, and our hearts are with Omar’s family during this tragic time,” SCSO stated in a Facebook post.

Anyone with information is asked to call SCPD Sgt. Wes Morey at 420-5857.
