PAJARO—One person was killed early Sunday morning when a suspected drunk driver crashed head-on into their vehicle in Pajaro, California Highway Patrol officer Jessica Madueño said.
Officers say the suspect, identified as Israel Cruz, 47, was driving east in a Toyota pickup on Hall Road just after midnight when he veered over the double-yellow lines into the westbound lanes. The pickup side-swiped a Volvo sedan driven by a 56-year-old man, and then crashed head-on into a Toyota sedan driven by a Watsonville man.
This impact caused the Toyota pickup to overturn and collide into a Honda sedan.
The driver of the Toyota sedan died from his injuries at the scene.
Cruz suffered major injuries, and was arrested for DUI.
Everyone involved in the incident is from Watsonville. This collision is still under investigation.
