Firefighters from multiple agencies deal with an early morning fire in the Vista Montaña housing complex in Watsonville that displaced 10 adults.

Watsonville Fire Division Chief Corey Schaefer said the initial call came in at 1am for the fire on the second floor of a home at 170 Franich Drive with three people trapped upstairs. As firefighters burst through the doors and windows, some with the use of extension ladders, they learned that no one was trapped, Schaefer said. Firefighters were able to tackle the small fire off of East Lake Avenue within minutes. The cause of the blaze was not immediately released. One person was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital for smoke inhalation while others were treated at the scene. Schaefer said the American Red Cross was called in to provide shelter for 10 people. The incident is still under investigation.
