Motorcyclist injured in crash; purse thief targets victim

WATSONVILLE—A Watsonville man suffered major injuries Friday morning after his motorcycle struck a vehicle while traveling on Highway 1. In the aftermath of the crash, a woman stole a purse from one of the vehicles involved in the crash, California Highway Patrol Officer Sam Courtney said.

According to Courtney, the 20-year-old motorcycle rider was traveling at a high rate of speed on a 2022 BMW S100RR just south of Buena Vista Drive around 9am when he hit the rear end of a 2014 Mercedes C250 that changed lanes.

During the investigation, another vehicle stopped at the scene. A woman exited that vehicle and stole a purse from inside the Mercedes before running away. She was last seen running toward Buena Vista Drive.

Anyone with information about the collision or the identity of the purse thief is asked to call the CHP at 831-662-0511.
