WATSONVILLE—A man was shot in a brazen daylight attack on Madison Street on New Year’s Eve.
Watsonville Police Department Sgt. Henry Robles said the suspect, a man in his early 20s wearing black clothing, shot the male victim on the street around 4:30pm near the intersection of Martinelli and Madison streets.
Based on multiple witness accounts, police began searching for a white Nissan Altima that was seen fleeing the scene north on Madison Street.
Police sealed off the area with yellow crime scene tape where they recovered more than a dozen shell casings and other evidence. Police said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Later that night, a gunshot was reported to police near a home on Riverside Road east of Blackburn Street, WPD Sgt. Mike Ridgway said. No injuries were reported. And on the following morning—New Year’s Day—a man called police around 8:30am to say he was pistol-whipped by a man at the intersection of Riverside Road and Blackburn Street. At least one shot was fired during that attack that left the victim with minor injuries.
All three incidents are still under investigation.
