Seminar focuses on reverse mortgages

WATSONVILLE — Marina Watts, reverse mortgage consultant and Bay Village homeowner, will hold a seminar titled “Reverse Mortgage for Better Retirement” on Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. at YWCA, 340 East Beach St. in Watsonville.

‘Cheers and Beers’ benefits Omega Nu

WATSONVILLE — “Cheers and Beers for Charity” will benefit Omega Nu on Nov. 13 from 4-8 p.m. at Elkhorn Slough Brewing Co., 65 Hangar Way, Suite D in Watsonville.

Omega Nu will receive a portion of all proceeds raised during the event.

WATSONVILLE — Watsonville High School will present its annual faculty talent show on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Henry J. Mello Center, 250 East Beach St.

The show raises funds for scholarships.

California Rural Legal Assistance offers walk-in services

WATSONVILLE — California Rural Legal Assistance Inc., a nonprofit law firm which provides free legal services to low-income people in Santa Cruz and San Benito counties, sees new clients on a walk-in basis. 

The firm assists clients in housing, education, employment, public benefits matters and LGBT rights.

Walk-ins can be accommodated at 21 Carr St. in Watsonville on Tuesdays from 1-4 p.m. and Thursdays from 9:30 am. to 1 p.m.

Woman’s Club hosting benefit event

CORRALITOS — The Corralitos Woman’s Club is hosting a benefit Wine Tasting & Holiday Boutique event on Nov. 25 at 35 Browns Valley Road in Corralitos from noon to 4 p.m.

Local wineries featured include Windy Oaks, Nicholson Vineyards, La Bella Vida Vineyards, Alfaro Family Vineyards, Wargin Wines, Sante Arcangeli, Wright Station and Burrell School. Additionally, assorted sparkling wines will be provided by Deer Creek Wine & Spirits.

Tickets for the event are $25, which will include wine tasting, musical entertainment and appetizers. Raffle prizes and silent auction items will be available along with handcrafted Holiday Boutique items for sale.

Proceeds from the event will help victims of recent fires.

Follies holding pancake breakfast

SANTA CRUZ — A benefit pancake breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Sunday at 222 Market St. in Santa Cruz.

Cost of the breakfast is $7 for adults, $3 for children under age 10. Also, take a look in “Grannie’s Attic” for household items and small gifts.

Proceeds will benefit Santa Cruz Follies, a local performing arts group for “over 50” Santa Cruz County citizens.

Sutter Health Plus expands to Santa Cruz County

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — Sutter Health Plus, a not-for-profit HMO affiliated with Sutter Health, announced the expansion of its health care coverage to employers and consumers in Santa Cruz County with coverage available effective Jan. 1, 2018.

“Sutter Health Plus’ number one priority is to provide access to high-quality care. It’s exciting to bring new health plan options to employers and consumers in Santa Cruz County,” said Phil Jackson, CEO of Health Plan Products, Sutter Health. “The expansion complements our Bay Area provider network and also benefits consumers in the South Bay who live or work in Santa Cruz County.”

The Sutter Health Plus network in Santa Cruz County includes Palo Alto Medical Foundation and its care centers throughout the county, Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center and Watsonville Community Hospital. Members will also have access to El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, a Sutter Health Plus participating provider since 2015.

The move into Santa Cruz County marks the third geographic expansion since the health plan’s launch in 2014. Sutter Health Plus has grown to serve nearly 70,000 members. The health plan’s provider network now includes 30 hospitals, eight walk-in care facilities, 45 urgent care centers and more than 5,000 physicians.

“Our continued growth demonstrates the high value we provide as a provider-sponsored health plan,” Jackson said. “We look forward to welcoming new members who live or work in Santa Cruz County.”
