WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man is now facing charges after a DNA match linked him to the sexual assault of 13-year-old girl in 2016.

According to Watsonville Police, detectives arrested Rafael Orozco, 22, at a Watsonville home Thursday morning.

In 2016, the 13-year-old victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted and was taken to a local hospital where a medical exam was completed.

Orozco was arrested for a felony assault in 2017 and his DNA was entered into the Combined DNA Index System, known as CODIS, which linked him to the 2016 case involving the 13-year-old.

After the DNA hit, detectives began a “very lengthy process” to arrest Orozco, according to police.
