Man in critical condition after another shooting near levee

WATSONVILLE—A 46-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot early Saturday morning near the Pajaro River levee on Walker Street, an area that has seen two other shootings in recent months.

Watsonville Police Department officers were dispatched to the end of Walker Street near the levee at 12:03am on Saturday. There, officers found the victim with a “couple” of gunshot wounds, says WPD Sgt. Mish Radich.

He was transferred to an out-of-county trauma center. His identity is not being disclosed at this moment. WPD believes he is a transient.

No suspects have been identified, Radich said.

The shooting is the third in that area since a double shooting in October. On Jan. 9, 19-year-old Francisco Mora was found shot dead near the levee.

No arrests have been made in either of those shootings.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting is asked to call Det. Salvador Mendoza at 831-768-3357.
