A man is still missing after he and another man leapt into the ocean from West Cliff Drive Sunday afternoon.

Santa Cruz Police said they got reports of the incident at 4:45pm at 701 West Cliff Drive. Police learned that two swimmers jumped off the cliff and were struggling to swim back to the shore. One man was able to swim to shore while the other man was possibly submerged.

Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and Central fire departments—along with State Park Lifeguards, the U.S. Coast Guard and SCPD—joined the search at Lighthouse Point.

Officials at UC Santa Cruz later announced that the missing man was a student at the campus, but did not release their name.

“We are heartbroken to learn about the tragic death of a UC Santa Cruz undergraduate student,”  a prepared statement from the university says. “Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. We are in touch with the family and are providing support to others who are impacted.”
