Watsonville city manager interviews set for March 22

WATSONVILLE—The Watsonville City Council in a Monday night special closed session meeting reviewed candidates for the city’s vacant city manager position.

Watsonville City Attorney Samantha Zutler on Tuesday morning said that the council took no action on the item, the lone topic on the meeting’s agenda.

Watsonville City Manager Pro Tempore Tamara Vides said on March 11 that the council in Monday’s closed session would select the candidates that would move through the recruiting process for interviews scheduled on March 22.

The council could make a decision immediately following the interviews, Vides said, but there is no deadline for when the elected leaders must hire a new chief executive.

Vides has served as the city’s highest-ranking official since Matt Huffaker took the Santa Cruz City Manager position in January. Huffaker was with Watsonville for five years, including three as its city manager.

The city council’s regulary scheduled meeting is also set for March 22.
