SANTA CRUZ — Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Santa Cruz Monday morning to participate in Santa Cruz’s second annual Martin Luther King Jr. march.
The event was one of hundreds that occurred throughout the U.S. Participants included union members, churches, schools and parents with their children.
Many of the marchers carried signs supporting their causes, but several other signs bore messages denouncing the administration of Donald J. Trump, whose hard-line immigration policies are believed to be inflaming racial tensions across the nation.

Students from Pacific Collegiate School were among several other schools that participated in the march.
