Dennis Allen Dewart died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, Sunday evening, January 27, 2019 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz due to complications related to pneumonia just ten days after his 69th birthday.

Dennis was a native Californian, born Jan 17, 1950 in Watsonville to Elmer & Roseanna (Freeborn) Dewart.  A graduate of Watsonville High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Deborah Cornell on Aug 5, 1972.  Dennis loved the outdoors and all the sports that went with it – camping, hunting, fishing, water skiing, mountain biking, and motorcycling.  After retiring from Cal Trans, where he worked for over 25 years, he and Deb bought a Boston Whaler and that is where you could find Dennis most days after that – off the Santa Cruz Harbor fishing!

Dennis is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah Dewart; his extended family of cousins, many nieces and nephews and many close friends.  Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Dewart; his mother, Roseanna Freeborn Dewart; his brother Douglas Dewart; and sadly, his daughter Danielle Dewart in 1999.

Dennis will always be lovingly remembered for his great love of family, kind heart, carefree adventurous spirit, and willingness to always lend a helping hand.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1pm Monday, Feb 4, 2019 at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz. If you would like to offer condolences to Dennis’ family, share your memories and light a candle in his honor please visit www.scmemorial.com
