SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — The Local Agency Formation Commission of Santa Cruz County announced Joe Serrano as its next executive officer.
Currently a senior analyst at LAFCO of Monterey County, Serrano has more than 10 years of LAFCO experience in Southern California and Monterey County. He replaced outgoing Executive Officer Patrick McCormick, and his first day on the job will be Feb. 19.
“The LAFCO Board is excited to welcome Joe Serrano to our agency,” LAFCO Chair Jim Anderson said. “He has the experience and enthusiasm necessary to tackle the challenges of the position, which has significant implications for the people of Santa Cruz County. We expect he will excel in his new role.”
“I am pleased with the trust the board has placed in me and am excited to get to work,” Serrano said. “I am committed to helping deliver the most efficient, effective public services possible.”
McCormick will provide orientation and training for Serrano through his planned retirement date of May 10. McCormick has been LAFCO’s executive officer since December 1980, overseeing sphere of influence reviews and service boundaries for cities, local water, fire, parks and other special districts.
Under the Cortese-Knox-Hertzberg Local Government Reorganization Act of 2000, the mission of LAFCOs throughout California is to discourage urban sprawl, preserve open space and prime agricultural lands, efficiently provide governmental services, and encourage the orderly formation and development of local agencies based upon local conditions and circumstances.
