Four local teams won Central Coast Section Spring Scholastic Championships, an award given to the top five teams in each sport based on the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA).

Aptos High’s lacrosse team (3.35 GPA) and Mt. Madonna’s boy’s volleyball (3.6) and boy’s (3.8) and girl’s (3.8) track and field teams were all honored.

HS BASEBALL

• Watsonville 14, NMC 4 – Maximilian Ramirez IV struck out five batters over five innings on the mound and finished 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two scored runs at the plate in Watsonville High’s 14-4 win over North Monterey County High on Wednesday night.

James Gomez Jr. also went 2-for-2 and hit a homer. Clayton Galassi finished 4-for-4 with two doubles, five RBIs and three runs.

• St. Francis 7, North Salinas 1 – Derric Estrada-Haro went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, four RBIs and two scored runs to lead the St. Francis High Sharks past North Salinas High, 7-1, on Wednesday.

Chase Watkins was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

JC SOFTBALL

• Sugimoto named to All-State team – Cabrillo College shortstop Jamie Sugimoto was named to the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association All-State team.

Sugimoto, who recently signed her letter of intent to play at NCAA Division I softball for Long Beach State, was a bright spot for the Seahawks this season, hitting .525 while also carrying a .640 on base percentage.

She finished the season with 40 RBIs, 10 home runs, four triples and 14 doubles.

HS SOFTBALL

• St. Francis 6, Santa Cruz 2 – The St. Francis High Sharks edged the Santa Cruz High Cardinals on Thursday in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.

Miranda Janisch allowed eight hits and two walks but struck out seven batters and recorded the win.

Ariana Azevedo had two hits, including a home run, with three RBIs and two scored runs. Anna Noto had two RBIs and two hits. Alyssa Soto hit a double.

• Aptos 11, Harbor 0 – Mariah Sanchez tossed a five-hit shutout to lead the Aptos High Mariners over the Harbor High Pirates, 11-0, on Thursday in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.

Sunshyne Brechler was 2-for-2 with a home run, two scored runs and an RBI. Ashley Del Colletti also went 2-for-2 and scored three runs. Julia Cano and Allie Diaz both hit a double.

BOY’S TENNIS

• Aptos knocked out in first round – The Aptos High Mariners lost to Carlmont High in a 7-0 sweep in the first round of the Central Coast Section Team Championships on Wednesday.

Aptos finished the season with a 12-2 overall record and 9-1 Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League standing, which was good enough for a share of the league championship.
