Caution tape surrounds a section of Muzzio Park at the corner of First and Rodriguez streets Wednesday in Watsonville where a play structure was burned the ground Tuesday morning. The Watsonville Police Department has launched an arson investigation regarding the incident. “Our officers were on patrol when they saw large flames in the area,” Sgt. Mish Radich said. “There was no one around. We’re hoping witnesses can come forward.” Since officers found pieces of wood around the structure it led them to believe arson was involved. Replacement costs have been placed around $50,000. A group of WPD detectives spent Wednesday morning canvassing the area, going door-to-door in hopes of finding information. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Gustavo Zamora at 768-3355.
