Kenny Sears, 83, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis over two years ago.
He was born and raised in Watsonville.  It’s where he began his basketball career at Watsonville High and went on to play at Santa Clara University where he was an all-American. He went on to play eight seasons in the NBA; six with the NY Knicks and two with the Golden State Warriors. He was twice named an NBA all-star and was the first basketball player to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1954.
He lived a full life pursuing his passions. He loved his family foremost and made sure they were always included in whatever he and his wife Eunice did, from traveling the western states and Mexico to family BBQ’s.  He was the best at it all!
He loved to fish and that’s what led him to Mexico where he made Mismoloya, near Puerto Vallarta, his home during the winter. He continued this for over 30 years. His family got to spend time there every year for the holidays so that they could be together. His generous nature blessed his family and many others in his life.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Eunice, daughter Debi Barry (Bob), son Dante (Sarah), 3 granddaughters, Kelley Cavanaugh, Samantha Jilka (Nate), Bridget Barry and 3 great-grandsons, Hayden and Garrett Jilka and Jacob Williams who gave him immense joy in his later years.
The Hospice nurses gave exceptional care during his last months. Donations can be made in his honor to Hospice of Santa Cruz Co. 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, Ca. 95066.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held on Sat., May 20th at 11 a.m. at Twin Lakes Church, 2701 Cabrillo College Dr., Aptos. Reception to follow.
Arrangements have been entrusted in the care of The Carroll Family of Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, www.avemariamemorialchapel.com
