SANTA CRUZ — A Santa Cruz man is in custody and facing attempted murder charges for a stabbing that occurred Monday night on the San Lorenzo River Levee.

Nick Mennick, 64, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $375,000 bail.

Santa Cruz Police responded to the San Lorenzo River Levee near Soquel Avenue about 9:11 p.m. There, they found a male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to an out-of-county hospital.

Mennick fled but was located near Seabright Avenue and Murray Street.

Anyone with information and neighbors with surveillance cameras that may have captured the incident are asked to call the SCPD Investigations Unit at 420-5820. Anonymous tips can be left at 420-5995.
