SANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz police are looking for a suspect who shot a man in the area of Encinal Drive and Highway 9 in Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon.
Police responded to a report of shots fired around 1:52 p.m. Everyone involved had fled, but officers found evidence of a shooting and interviewed witnesses.
A short time later, an adult male arrived at a local hospital suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The shooting is not thought to be related to the spate of gang shootings that have occurred in the city recently, according to SCPD. Police have investigated gun-related incidents that occurred on July 21 and 31, and on Aug. 3 and 13.
Anyone with information and neighbors with surveillance cameras that may have captured the incident are asked to call the SCPD Investigations Unit at 420-5820. Anonymous tips can be left at 420-5995.
