CASTROVILLE—A Castroville man died in a solo vehicle crash Tuesday night when his pickup shot off the road and smashed into several poles.

California Highway Patrol officer Jessica Madueño said Daniel Guyton, 26, was traveling eastbound on Highway 156 from northbound Highway 1 at a “high speed” just before 11 p.m. Guyton failed to maintain his GMC Sierra pickup in the traffic lanes and left the roadway in a northeasterly direction.

The truck struck two Caltrans poles before overturning. Guyton was ejected from the GMC.

Guyton was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.

The CHP reminds motorists that seat belts save lives and prevent injuries.

“Do not put your own life at risk, or the life of your family or friends: Buckle up,” Madueño said.
