The Aptos High boys’ basketball team showed no signs of rust in its Central Coast Section postseason opener.

The Mariners defeated North Monterey County High, 64-54, in the second round of the Division III playoffs on Saturday.

Guards Anwar Ayyad and Jojoe Moreno each scored 14 points for the No. 5 seed Mariners (18-7).

Cyrus Coffelt had 17 points and Jason Mellin added 15 for the Condors (13-12), who finished second in the Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission division. 

Aptos travels to Morgan Hill to take on No. 4 Ann Sobrato High (11-13) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Mariners, who won the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League regular-season and tournament championships, seek redemption against the Bulldogs. 

Ann Sobrato beat Aptos, 42-36, in a non-league game in December.

Brandon Ducusin led the Condors with a team-high 17 points to lift them over unseeded Pajaro Valley High in the opening round. Mellin had 13 points and Coffelt contributed 12 points. Marcos Calderon hauled 12 rebounds for N.M.C.

King City 61, Monte Vista Christian 59: King City pulled off the the first big upset of the weekend as they knocked off No. 10 Monte Vista Christian in the first round of the CCS D-IV playoffs on Friday.  

Angel Trujillo had 20 points, while Devin Morales added 16 for King City (12-9), who previously lost to M.V.C. (10-14) by 21 in the teams’ season opener.

Thomas More 69, St. Francis 68: Igratius Vogel scored the go-ahead shot with three seconds left to help the No. 12-seeded Knights upset the No.5- seeded Sharks in the second round of the CCS D-V playoffs Saturday.  

St. Francis senior Joey Garibay scored a game-high 32 points, making four 3-pointers. 

Thomas More High made 12 3-point shots.

Isaiah Gonzales had 14 points and Lawson Orradre chipped in six for St. Francis (16-7). Both Dylan Kane and Dominic Nakagawa scored five points for the Sharks.   

Alex DeTar led the Knights (18-11) with a team-high 23 points and Thomas DeTar added 22.

Girls

D-III: No. 9 Santa Cruz at No. 1 Aptos, 7 p.m.

D-IV: No. 7 Terra Nova at No. 2 MVC, 7 p.m.

D-V: No. 5 Pacific Bay Christian at No. 4 St. Francis, 7 p.m.
