Workers with Nor-Cal Scaffolding on Friday morning finish up their work for the first phase of “Watsonville Brillante,” a 1,200-square-foot section of a larger mosaic on the six-story garage abutting Watsonville’s Civic Plaza.
When complete, the mosaic, spearheaded by local artist Kathleen Crocetti, will cover 12,500 square feet. The first phase took roughly six months to create and was put together by dozens of volunteers at the Muzzio Park Community Center on Rodriguez Street, Crocetti said.
Rinaldi Tile and Marble provided the installation free of charge, while Fireclay Tile and Daltile donated the tile, Crocetti said.
Crocetti said the pace for the second installment is expected to be a bit slower because of the shelter-in-place order restrictions.
