APTOS—Siding construction is underway on The Hideout restaurant that was largely destroyed by fire in May 2019.

Workers from Costa Bella Builders are behind the rebuild of the popular eatery nestled beneath a canopy of redwoods at 9051 Soquel Drive between Rio del Mar and Freedom boulevards.

Property owners Dale Berman, Austin Welch and Pete Vomvolakis said from the onset that they were determined to get the restaurant reopened as soon as possible.

Construction is now about 50 percent complete, the owners said. Workers are in the drywall installation stage.

In a release, the owners said, “As far as an opening date, considering this new environment with Covid-19, we don’t necessarily have a projected opening date but we’re being optimistic to possibly open by the end of the year.”

Their menu included Mediterranean to California grill, Asian fusion, Italian, seafood, soups, sandwiches and burgers. It also featured a full bar and indoor and outdoor seating.
