Collin Travers (from right), Saul Valadez and Juan Trujillo of the Watsonville Police Department join Robert Strong as he carries the torch in the annual Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run in Watsonville Wednesday. Since 1981 the Torch Run, a global movement, has served to generate funds to help create a new world of inclusion and community, where everyone is welcome, regardless of ability or disability. Known as Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes take turns, in various teams in delivering the “Flame of Hope” into opening ceremonies of local competitions. There are more than 97,000 law enforcement members that carry the torch each year.
