I see the rail trail system is moving forward off of Ohlone Parkway. I’ve ridden my bike along a nearly complete section of the trail on the westside of Santa Cruz where it flanks the railroad track near Almar Street. It’s great. Plenty wide, smooth, and mostly off the traffic path.

Hats off to the family that owns La Perla del Pacifico Restaurant on Main Street in Watsonville. They are celebrating not only 30 years of a successful business but also 30 years of marriage. I certainly wish these kind people all the best in plowing through these difficult Covid months. They are, like other eateries, cafes, pubs and such relegated to takeout only.

Today I watched a bunch of surfers at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz competing in the Adaptive Surf League. The event’s mission is to promote adaptive surfing as a professional sport for the severely disabled.
Luckily for them, the surf was huge and gave them a lot to work with. Enthusiasm was high from the folks gathered along the bluffs. Fortunately, most everyone seemed to follow safe social distancing and mask-wearing in the open-air event.
