Alex Sandoval oversees a project Tuesday to breach the Pajaro River where it meets the sea. Sandoval said his crew fears upcoming storms might send water levels over Beach Road and over roadways within the Pajaro Dunes community.

The County Of Santa Cruz is issuing warnings to residents in the region as a major storm system begins to roll in. Heavy winds and a possible 8-12 inches of rain is possible in the next few days.

Evacuations have been issued for parts of the Santa Cruz Mountains where possible debris flows, as a result of recent wildfires, are expected.
