Enforce the laws
We have endured another onslaught of pyrotechnics in Watsonville. While I appreciate efforts to discourage their use, such as bilingual ads in the newspaper and electronic message boards placed around the city, I wonder: why enact ordinances and laws if they apparently cannot be enforced?

Cabrillo doesn’t need a name change
We are writing to urge your readers to drop the idea of changing Cabrillo College’s name. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo was from a different time and culture of 1542. Some 500 years ago, he sailed up the coast from San Diego reaching beyond Monterey Bay. Cabrillo had the courage and skill to sail along the unknown coast of California. We know he was not perfect. However, the founding trustees of our community college chose his name unanimously on March 2, 1959. The trustees saw it as a popular name for California’s history and agreeable to both Santa Cruz and Watsonville.
Changing Cabrillo’s name would come at a large expense to the college and our community taxpayers when there are other, more important needs requiring funds. If you agree with this view, please email it to: na*************@ca******.edu .Â
