Suspect arrested on molestation charges in Pajaro

PAJARO—A 69-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of molesting at least two girls.

Crescenciano Figueroa

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested Crescenciano Figueroa, Jr., of Pajaro, on charges of child molestation. Figueroa, known by many in the community as “Chano,” was taken into custody on Fremont Street in Pajaro, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He was charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, false imprisonment, burglary and obstructing a public official. He was booked into Monterey County Jail in lieu of $560,000 bail, jail records showed.

In September the Sheriff’s Office received information Figueroa had molested a juvenile girl. During the investigation, the second victim was identified.

The Sheriff’s Office believes it is likely Figueroa has been engaging in this conduct for well over 20 years.

Figueroa is known by many in the Pajaro community, as he is an active member of Assumption Church there, where he assists with church activities and was a pastor’s assistant, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Figueroa has also claimed to be a “Curandero,” which is a Spanish term used to describe a spiritual healer.

Investigators are seeking help identifying additional victims.

Anyone with information about Figueroa or was a victim is asked to call Det. Jesus Reyes at 831-755-3805 or Det. Sgt. Bryan Hoskins at 831-755-3773.
