Main Street project goes skyward

WATSONVILLE—Work continues on a new business complex on the 900 block of Main Street at Auto Center Drive in Watsonville.

Santa Cruz Seaside Company spokesperson Kris Reyes said the three-building project includes two restaurants, Chipotle Mexican Grill and The Habit Burger Grill. Reyes has also said that a Starbucks store would be one of the center’s tenants.

“We are still working to finalize contracts with other businesses and cannot disclose those until we have reached agreements,” Reyes said. “We hope to complete the work by mid-2022.”

Santa Cruz Seaside Company also owns the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and various business complex’s throughout the county.

The project is in the wood framing stage of the second story for all three buildings that flank Ramsay Park.

It received approval from the Watsonville City Council in early 2020 after a heated discussion that centered around increased traffic in the busy intersection and the creation of two new drive-thrus—one for Chipotle and the other for Starbucks.

Boos Development is leading the project with McKently Lalak as the architect. Paden & Bletscher Construction is behind the construction work.
