SCOTTS VALLEY—Aptos High senior pitcher Ada Neu recorded 12 strikeouts in seven innings to help the Mariners softball team to a 4-3 win against Scotts Valley in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action Thursday.
She gave up four hits and three unearned runs. Neu batted 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple and an RBI.
Fellow teammate Riley Carrera batted 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI, and Lily McGee Hit a solo blast.
Jewels Chavez finished with a double and an RBI for the Mariners (7-4, 3-1), who plays Harbor on Tuesday at 4:30pm.
Boys tennis
Aptos 5, Soquel 2: Sean Spencer and Nick Hambright battled their way to win their No. 2 doubles match in three sets (6-4, 6-7, 7-6), helping the Mariners beat the Knights in SCCAL action Thursday.
Aptos swept in doubles action, starting with a win by the No. 1 team of John McGowan and Jack Eldredge (6-4, 6-4). Andrew Morrissey and Jack Taylor (6-1, 6-3) were victorious in their No. 3 doubles match.
Aaron Buchanan won his No. 3 singles match (6-1, 6-1) and No. 4 Heath Hegna won his match for Aptos, which improved to 4-0 in league play.
Aptos’ Koosha Safari, defending SCCAL singles champion, lost to Jack Van Ness (6-3, 6-0) in their No. 1 singles match, and Bennett Biscotti of Aptos fell to Benjamin Bellito (6-1, 6-1) in their No. 2 singles match.
The Mariners will play at Scotts Valley on Tuesday 4:30pm.
Boys track and field
Watsonville 92, Christopher 41: The Wildcatz had a trio of athletes who each won two individual events at their Pacific Coast Athletic League multi-team meet Wednesday.
Watsonville’s Adan Rivas won the 100-meter in 12.05 seconds and the 200 in 24.34, Sebastian Abonce won the 1,600 (4:57.57) and the high jump in 5 feet, 6 inches, and David Rocha-Vargas won the shot put (32’-4.50”) and discus (106’-4”).
Rodrigo Barranco won the 800 (2:18.31), Emanuel Renteria-Garcia won the 3,200 (10:53.63), Jung Soo Kim-Ebio won the 110 hurdles (19.53) and Ruben Mora won the 300 hurdles (48.50) for the Wildcatz.
Watsonville’s Louie Brambila, Rivas, Dominic Coria and Mora won the 4×100 (46.29). Pajaro Valley’s Jesus Basulto-Morales, Izaak Ocampo, Andrew Rojas and Edgar Ponce won the 4×400 in 4:01.43.
Christopher defeated the Grizzlies (79.5-16.5) and Ceiba (89-11).
Girls track and field
Watsonville 76, Christopher 59: A trio of Wildcatz athletes each won two individual events at their Pacific Coast Athletic League multi-team meet Wednesday.
Watsonville’s Mayra Peralta Celedon won the 100-meter run in 13.44 seconds and the 200 in 27.90, Dahlia Barranco won the 800 (2:31.38) and 1,600 (5:36.01), and Jasmine Navarro won the 100 hurdles (18.33) and long jump (14’-3”).
Dominique Cervantes-Samudio won the 400 (1:03.72), Katelynn Ruiz won the 3,200 (12:05.89) and Evangelina Gaona won the triple jump (30’-0”) for the Wildcatz.
Watsonville’s Liz Torres, Natalie Martinez, Barranco and Cervantes-Samudio also won the 4×400 in 4:23.33.
Christopher defeated Pajaro Valley (103-26) and Ceiba (113-3).
Marheineke wins twice in Mitty’s opener: Archbishop Mitty freshman Evie Marheineke, a Santa Cruz resident, recorded two first place finishes in a dual meet against St. Ignatius on Wednesday.
Marheineke won both the 1600-meter in 5 minutes, 25.25 seconds and the 3,200 (11:41.10) to help the Monarchs girls team win its West Catholic Athletic League opener.
College baseball
Cabrillo 3, Hartnell 1: Clayton Ray tossed seven shutout innings for the Seahawks in their Coast Conference South Division win against the Panthers on Thursday.
Ray gave up four hits, no walks and recorded five strikeouts for Cabrillo (10-12, 5-0), which remains unbeaten in South Division play. Nick Liechty recorded his first save of the season.
Kinsal Plunkett batted 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Jack Bollengier, an Aptos High alumni, batted 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Anthony Karagiannopoulos and Ryan Mathiesen each had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Seahawks, who play at Hartnell (2-20, 0-5) on Saturday at 1pm.
