Watsonville High senior pitcher Dominic Hernandez was in the zone and in total control on the mound for the Wildcatz baseball team Thursday.
The right-hander recorded eight strikeouts for the complete game victory in the Catz’s 12-3 win over Alvarez High in Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division play.
Watsonville swept the season series against the Eagles and have won five straight.
The ‘Catz recorded 13 hits as a team lead by senior Isaac Vargas who had a triple, a double and had a couple of singles.
Fellow sophomore teammate Brody Legions had three hits including a pair of doubles, and sophomore Adrian Leon and Andrew Azevado each also had a double.
Abraham Bonilla and senior Richie Ortiz also recorded a couple of base hits for Watsonville (10-2, 5-1), which travels to Monte Vista Christian on Monday at 4pm.
Boys tennis
Aptos 7, Harbor 0: The Mariners remain undefeated in league play after a win against the Pirates in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action Thursday.
Heath Hegna, Jack Eldredge, Patrick Morrissey and Adam Allen did not drop a game, sweeping their singles matches for Aptos, which improved to 6-0 in league play.
The Mariners won all three of their doubles matches by forfeit.
Girls lacrosse
Scotts Valley 16, Monte Vista Christian 2: Sophomore Kyra Driscoll and freshman Kylie Bruenlli each scored for the Mustangs in Thursday’s PCAL Gabilan Division loss to the Falcons.
MVC (4-2, 0-1) will host Salinas today at 5:30pm.
NBA G League
Warriors 111, Wolves 102: The Santa Cruz Warriors had three different players post double-double figures in a win against the Iowa Wolves at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Wednesday night.
Forward Jerome Robinson finished with 21 points and 11 assists, forward LJ Figueroa added 13 points and 17 rebounds and center Selom Mawugbe had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Wolves center Chris Silva finished with a team-best 28 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Fellow teammate Melvin Frazier Jr. had 12 points and nine rebounds, and guard Isaiah Miller added 24 points and five assists off the bench for Iowa.
The Sea Dubs went on a 16-0 run to kick off the first quarter. The Wolves brought the lead to within seven points, 31-24, going into the second stanza.
Iowa took the lead early in the second quarter and held on to a one-point advantage, 63-62, at the break.
Santa Cruz held the Wolves to 39 points in the second half and were able to maintain the lead throughout the fourth quarter for a 111-102 win.
The Warriors (11-17) will host the Wolves at Kaiser Permanente Arena tonight at 7pm. The final regular season home game is against the Austin Spurs on Saturday at 7pm
