WATSONVILLE—Watsonville High scored six unanswered runs to beat St. Francis, 6-3, in Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division play Wednesday. 

Jayden Cardona and Adrian Leon combined for five strikeouts for the Wildcatz, who snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 6-4 in league play. 

Brody Legions batted 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Watsonville. Fellow teammates Miguel Lopez had a base hit and one run scored, Colin Parker scored one run and Isaak Vargas had four stolen bases and one run scored.  

Noel Aquino batted 1-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored for the Sharks, who dropped to 5-2 in league play.

Senior pitcher Kai Price gave up six runs—three earned—on two hits while recording nine strikeouts for St. Francis (10-2, 5-2), which will host King City on Tuesday at 4pm. 

Watsonville (11-5, 6-4) will play in the alumni game on April 15 and then return to league action at home against Alisal (9-2-1, 6-1) on April 25 at 4pm. 

Monte Vista Christian 8, King City 1: Junior pitcher Jojo Keldsen recorded 11 strikeouts for the Mustangs in a win against King City in PCAL Mission Division play Wednesday. 

Keldsen gave up one run on six hits and one walk in seven innings. Mark Spohn and Kyle Recotta each collected multiple hits for MVC (9-5-1, 4-3), which hosts King City on Friday at 4pm.

High school softball

North Monterey County 11, Santa Catalina 1: Senior infielder Jasmynne Oliva had a home run for the Condors in Wednesday’s win over the Cougars in PCAL Mission Division play.  

Oliva was one bat away from completing the cycle. Fellow teammates Gaby Holmes, Johana Alonzo, Brooke Ramirez, Leslie Ruiz and the Visesio sisters—Ame and Deja—all had multiple hits for NMC.

The Condors (11-4, 3-0) will play at Stevenson (5-2-1, 1-0) on Friday at 4:30pm.

Boys volleyball

Pajaro Valley 3, Alvarez 2: The Grizzlies defeated the Eagles in five sets (26-24, 25-20, 13-25, 14-25, 15-13) in PCAL Mission Division play Thursday.

Pajaro Valley will host Soledad High on Tuesday at 6:30pm. 

Watsonville 3, Seaside 0: Isaak Vargas had four blocks and three aces for the Wildcatz in their three-set (25-21,25-21,25-20) victory over the Spartans in PCAL Mission Division action Thursday.

Angel Casillas added three kills for Watsonville, which improved to 4-0 in league play.

The ‘Catz (5-3, 4-0) play at Alvarez (5-16, 0-4) on Tuesday at 6:30pm.

Bay Cities 2, Monterey Bay F.C. 1: Robbie Crawford scored on a header for Monterey Bay F.C. in a loss to Bay Cities FC in the teams’ second-round match of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at PayPal Park in San Jose on Wednesday night.
