WATSONVILLE—A large portion of the Pajaro Valley was blanketed with heavy smoke Monday afternoon after a fire erupted in a brush-covered field between the Pajaro River and 30 Riverside Road.
The 3:45pm incident drew a large response from Watsonville Fire, North Monterey County Fire and Cal Fire, who headed up the operation. No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. The cause in still under investigation.
Cal Fire reported the fire contained just after 4:30pm. Towering clouds of white smoke wafted across the Pajaro Valley east and settled against the Santa Cruz Mountains.
