WATSONVILLE—Today between 1-4pm, a community outreach team from Second Harvest Food Bank (SHFB) will visit flood victims in Watsonville to see if they are in need of immediate food.
The free mobile food pantry is part of Second Harvest’s response to the recent historic storms that resulted in many flooded streets in Bay Village and surrounding areas. The organization has provided labor and transport for sandbagging and emergency food distributions, coordinating with a number of partner agencies during the disaster.
When the City’s evacuation centers closed on Jan. 18, SCFB began resupplying hard-hit neighborhoods. Since many flood victims in these communities are housebound seniors, the organization convened a team to take food straight to the people.
“We’re here every step of the way for our neighbors in need,” said CEO Erica Padilla-Chavez. “Sandbags, hot meals, and now a mobile pantry.”
A supply of fresh vegetables and shelf-stable pantry items will be available on the spot for residents today between 1-4pm. Residents are also encouraged to contact the Community Food hotline at 831.662.0991 for information regarding SHFB’s free pantry recovery program.
