A domestic quarrel between a man and a woman in Watsonville led to a police pursuit on Highway 1 Friday that shut down the northbound lanes for nearly an hour.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the separate vehicles being driven by the man and the woman. One of the drivers eventually pulled over on northbound Highway 1 between State Park Drive and Park Avenue after a chase.

Police shut down the highway for about 40 minutes to process the scene.

Police eventually opened one lane of northbound Highway 1 but the incident caused massive traffic delays in both directions, not only on the highway but on surrounding surface streets.
