With a theme of Stars, Stripes and Strawberries, the Spirit of Watsonville Fourth of July Parade rolled along Main Street on Tuesday to the Watsonville Main Branch of the Post Office.

Tarmo Hannula has been the lead photographer with The Pajaronian newspaper in Watsonville since 1997. More recently Good Times & Press Banner. He also reports on a wide range of topics, including police, fire, environment, schools, the arts and events. A fifth generation Californian, Tarmo was born in the Mother Lode of the Sierra (Columbia) and has lived in Santa Cruz County since the late 1970s. He earned a BA from UC Santa Cruz and has traveled to 33 countries.

  1. What happened to the man that fell from the horse at the end of the parade? Do we have any information on what caused the horse to act like that? How is the man’s condition? Please let the community know.

  2. Tarmo, I have an album of pics from the parade too! Don’t know if you guys have any use for them. I also heard someone got bucked and they died??? I was way down by the Post Office towards the end of the parade. I didn’t hear anything about that. I’m ready to go shoot…get in touch! Thanks,Virginia S

  3. I left a bit early to avoid traffic jam and missed the accident. But the entire parade was great and I really enjoyed it. The parade captured the specialness and the charm of Watsonville. Thank you to everyone who participated in the parade and to everyone who organized the parade.
