The 40th annual Evening of Wine & Roses unfolded Saturday night at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds. Put on by the Community Health Trust of Pajaro Valley, the event serves as a fundraiser in support of health and wellness services for the Pajaro Valley.
Guests sampled craft beer from local breweries, hors d’oeuvres by local restaurants and wine by vintners of the Santa Cruz Mountains, while browsing items for a silent auction.
Live music was performed by The Joint Chiefs.
“The theme this year was the ‘Sky’s the Limit,’ because that is how we feel about the future,” said Celeste DeWald, development director for the Health Trust.
According to DeWald, there were 595 attendees and the event raised $117,000. She added that it took 171 business supporters that included vendors, auction donors and sponsors. In all, 73 volunteers stacked up 255 hours for the production.
“It’s a great feeling to have a sold-out event, and we appreciate everyone who contributed to its success,” Health Trust Executive Director DeAndre’ James said. “We have big plans for 2024, and the support of the community will play an essential role in helping us achieve our goals. Community is at the heart of what we do, and it’s our top priority to support one another.”
“This is one of the great events that happens in Watsonville,” Santa Cruz County Supervisor Felipe Hernandez said. “It brings so many people together for an evening of great food and wines and raises money for a good cause; it’s just a great opportunity for us to come together and get something very important done.”
Local business owner Tila Guerrero said she has come to the event numerous times.
“It feels good just to walk through the door and see so many familiar faces,” she said. “I’m glad to be here because of what the evening means and what it does. I’m proud to be here year after year and I’m proud of all these people that showed up.”
Pajarosa Floral has played a major role in the event for years.
“Pajarosa Floral has been proud of being a Champion of the Evening of Wine and Roses over the past few decades,” said Paul Furman of Pajarosa Floral. “We share the same core values as the Health Trust as we both focus on the health, wellness and commitment to our community. We are fortunate to be able to continue to support the event and organization year after year, as we realize that the benefit of enjoying flowers aligns with the mission of the Community Health Trust.”
