The Pajaronian’s Athletes of the Week were selected based on their performances during the week of Oct. 7-13. Coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to submit nominations to sports editor Juan Reyes at [email protected]

Boys

Casey MacConnell (Sr.), Aptos

Casey Maconnell played a critical role on both sides of the ball for the Mariners football team in their 34-31 victory against Palma High in Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division action Oct. 11. He racked up 97 rushing yards on just seven carries and scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave Aptos the lead. MacConnell also made a huge interception on defense that stalled a potential scoring drive for Palma, which was driving inside Aptos’ 30-yard line when McConnell picked off an out-route.

Girls

Isa Alvarez (Fr.), Watsonville

Isa Alvarez racked up 135 total yards and one rushing touchdown for the Wildcatz girls’ flag football team in a 30-6 win over Monterey High in PCAL Gabilan Division action Oct. 9. The standout freshman also recorded one interception on defense. Alvarez had another breakout game for Watsonville in its 28-6 victory against Alvarez High in league play. She finished with more than 130 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and 50 rushing yards with one touchdown on the ground.
