Aptos senior Spike Sorensen recorded four goals and six assists in the Mariners’ 14-12 win over Saratoga in Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division action Wednesday evening. Teammate sophomore Parker O’Hara had four goals, while junior Alex Sandoval contributed a pair of goals and two assists. 

Ryan Murphy, Josh Couchman, Gabriel Sandoval and Izayah Castro each had one goal for Aptos (7-2, 7-1), which plays at Harbor in league play on Saturday at 11am. 

Girls lacrosse

At Aptos 19, Saratoga 8: Senior midfielder Avi Andrews had four goals and one assist in the Mariners’ win over Soquel in PCAL Mission Division play Wednesday night. Teammate senior midfielder Maya Rosa had three goals and one assist, while senior attacker Mary Watson contributed four goals.

Senior goalie Gamble Kellermyer recorded nine saves in front of the net, while junior attacker Aryel Reyes Mager finished with five goals. Sophomore attacker Aiyana Reyes Mager had one goal, and freshman midfielder Lauren Ashton finished with a pair of goals.

High school baseball

At St. Francis 6, Carmel 5: Senior Nash Horton delivered a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to help lift the Sharks past the Padres in PCAL Gabilan Division action Thursday afternoon.

Dononvan Dominguez and Nick Fantl each had a pair of hits and two RBIs for St. Francis, while teammate Javier Fonseca had two hits and scored twice. Noah Magaña had one hit and scored two runs for the Sharks. 

Horton allowed five runs—three earned—on seven hits and one walk while tallying seven strikeouts in six innings pitched. Fantl allowed two earned runs on three hits and struck out two batters to record the win for St. Francis (9-7, 6-6), which will continue PCAL Gabilan Division play at Monterey on April 29 at 4pm.   

At Watsonville 16, Seaside 0 (5 innings): Senior Patrick Miller-Brown had three hits, including one double, four RBIs and scored three runs in the Wildcatz’s win against Seaside in PCAL Cypress Division play Tuesday afternoon. 

Teammate senior Gabriel Lara had a pair of hits, two RBIs and scored two runs, while senior Rudy Valdez allowed three hits and recorded 12 strikeouts on the mound for Watsonville (8-9, 7-0), which will host St. Monica of Santa Monica on April 25 at 6pm.

High school softball 

At Aptos 9, San Lorenzo Valley 2: Sophomore Emma Burgueno had a pair of hits, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning in the Mariners’ win over the Cougars in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play Thursday afternoon.  

Burgueno finished with three RBIs and scored twice, while teammate Makenzie Lashley had two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Freshman Gwen Vaca had one hit and a pair of RBIs, and senior Bailey Fulton had one hit and scored twice for the Mariners.

Aptos Sophomore pitcher Maya Najera-White tossed five consecutive scoreless innings after she allowed two runs on two hits in the top of the second. She finished with six strikeouts in the complete game win for the Mariners (8-5, 4-2), who will host Soquel on April 22 at 4:30pm. 

At Pajaro Valley 23, St. Francis 13 (5 innings): Senior Elena Barron had two hits, including one double, five RBIs and scored three runs in the Grizzlies’ win over the Sharks in non-league play Wednesday afternoon. 

Hemeria De La Torre had three hits, including one double, four RBIs and scored four runs for Pajaro Valley, while teammates Virginia Escobar and Jaqueline Alvarez each had one double along with three and two RBIs, respectively. 

Bella Valentina Vargas-Sanchez had three hits, including two doubles, four RBIs and scored three runs for St. Francis. Teammate Lea Padilla had one double and three RBIs, while MacKenzie Ridgeway and Talia Moakler each had one hit and one RBI.  

Next up, Pajaro Valley (4-8, 3-3) plays at Seaside on April 23 at 4:30pm. St. Francis (0-5) plays at Gonzales on April 30 at 4:30pm. 

Alvarez 10, at Watsonville 0 (5 innings): Amelia Martinez, Mia Espinoza and Audrina Rodriguez each had one base hit in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Eagles in PCAL Gabilan Division play Wednesday afternoon. Watsonville (11-7, 1-4) plays at Hollister on April 23 at 4:30pm. 

College baseball

At Cabrillo 11, Gavilan 10 (13 innings): Nico Hilger hit a walk-off single in extra innings to help lift the Seahawks past the Rams in Coast Conference South Division play Thursday afternoon. Adrian Castañeda, who scored the game-winning run, finished with four hits and a pair of RBIs, while teammate Carlos Cruz Mar also had four hits and scored twice for Cabrillo, which is on a two game win streak.  

Diego Gabriel had three hits and three RBIs for the Seahawks (15-21, 8-9), who will host Ohlone (30-7, 13-4) in Coast Conference play on Saturday at 1pm.     

Boys golf

At Aptos 221, Santa Cruz 242: Nick Bjorn shot a 4-over-par 39 off the blue tees at Seascape Golf Club to earn medalist honors in the Mariners’ victory over the Cardinals in SCCAL play Thursday afternoon. Fellow teammates Ben Nowark and Leland Blankenship each shot a 44, followed by Mason Bloom (45) and Will Bartch (49).

Cliff Chesnut shot a team-best 5-over-par 40 for Santa Cruz, followed by Sam Wilkens (45), Tobin McClendon (47), Santi Toledo (55) and Gavin Eaton (55).

Aptos, which improved to a 6-3 overall record, will host Scotts Valley at Seascape Golf Club on April 23 at 4pm.

At Harbor 205, Aptos 217: Harbor’s Kaden Dunton shot a 35 at DeLaveaga Golf Course to earn medalist honors for a sixth time this season in the Pirates’ win over the Mariners in SCCAL play Tuesday afternoon. Teammate Gunther Krueger shot a 40, followed by Kyer Samples (41), Adam Stubblefield (44) and Niko Marinocik (45).

Nick Bjorn shot a team-best 39 for Aptos, followed by Colby Culbertson (40), Leland Blankenship (42), Ben Nowark (42) and Will Barch (54). 

Boys tennis

At Aptos 5, Scotts Valley 2: George Jertberg battled his way to victory in his No. 4 singles match, beating Scotts Valley’s Lincoln Verinsky in a three-set tiebreaker 6-4, 3-6 to help lift the Mariners over the Falcons in SCCAL play Tuesday afternoon. 

Aptos’ Tyler Thomas defeated Gary Kuriakose in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. In No. 1 singles, Dane Victory lost 6-0, 6-1 to Scotts Valley’s Eli Diamond at No. 1, while Nico Salinas fell 6-0, 6-1 to Scotts Valley’s Aditya Hannon at No. 2. 

In doubles action, Aptos’ Isaiah Ackerman and Luve Granstrom beat Jacob Bodeman and Freddy Padella in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1. Aptos’ Dylan Wood and Dylan Bray defeated Steve Saji and Jason Krok in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. The Falcons defaulted at No. 3. 

At Scotts Valley 5, San Lorenzo Valley 1: The Falcons swept all four singles matches and split a pair of doubles matches in their win against the Cougars in SCCAL play on Wednesday afternoon. SLV defaulted at No. 4 singles, and both teams defaulted at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Falcons’ senior Elijah Diamond defeated Sawyer Amos 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while Scotts Valley junior Aditya Hannon beat Everett Callendar 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Scotts Valley junior Lincoln Verinsky defeated Zach Schipper 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.

In doubles play, SLV’s duo of Asher Swartzbach and August Hughes beat Jacob Bodeman and Freddy Padilla 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. In the most competitive match of the day, Scotts Valley’s junior tandem of Garvasis Kuriakose and Steve Saji defeated Elias Luengas and Zevrin Herchey 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2.

Boys track and field

Stevenson 67, Watsonville 65: Senior Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar and junior Lisandro Pantoja each won two events in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Pirates in the teams’ PCAL Mission Division dual meet Thursday afternoon. 

Aceves-Aguilar won the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 19 feet, 5 1/2 inches and 40-3 1/2, respectively. Pantoja took first place in the shot put and discus with throws of 42-6 and 143-8, respectively. 

Senior Gerardo Acosta-Perez won the 110-meter hurdles in 18.78, while freshman Noel Navarro won the 300 hurdles in 47.82 for Watsonville, which dropped to 2-2 in league play this season.

Watsonville will host Monterey at Pajaro Valley High School in the teams’ regular season finale on April 24. 

Girls track and field

Stevenson 89.5, Watsonville 46.5: Junior Lizbeth Gomez Abrica was a winner in two events in the Wildcatz’s loss to the Pirates in the teams’ PCAL Mission Division dual meet Thursday afternoon. 

Gomez Abrica won the 800 in 2:30.44 and 3200 in 12:32.21, while teammate senior Katelynn Ruiz edged Stevenson freshman Julianna Cullers to capture the 1600 race. Junior Ximena Pimentel won the 400 in 1:10.66, and senior Jocelyn Guzman won the 300 hurdles race in 49.77 seconds.

Boys volleyball

At Salinas 3, Watsonville 0: The Wildcatz fell to the Cowboys in three sets 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 in non-league play Thursday evening. Watsonville (10-8, 10-0) will play at Aptos (1-16, 1-5) in non-league action on April 21 at 6pm.
