The discovery of a man’s body along Pajaro River levee Thursday has prompted an investigation by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched for a report of a body at 5am. A forensic examination on Friday determined the person was a male, but officials did not release any further details, or a cause of death.

It was the second time that a body was discovered along the levee in the past two months. In early April, deputies found 36-year-old Jesus Alfonso Duarte Figueroa of Watsonville buried in a shallow hole west of the Main Street Bridge that connects the community of Pajaro to Watsonville.

That incident is a murder investigation.
