A man died in a fire that engulfed a home in Aptos late Tuesday night.
Central Fire Division Chief Nigel Miller said firefighters were met with a multi-story home on the 1900 block of Seascape Boulevard fully engulfed in flames just before 11:30pm.
“We got a quick knock down of the flames and conducted an intense search for anyone trapped,” he said. We got initial reports that there were two people inside. We did locate a man who was deceased.” Miller said firefighters later learned that the report of a second person inside the home turned out not to be true. Their search for that alleged second person went on for two hours.
“The fire is still under investigation and it is too early to determine a cause,” Miller said. Since the fire involved a fatality, an arson investigator has been brought into the matter.
Miller added that no other surrounding structures were damaged by heat or flames.
The name of the victim has not been released.
