The Pajaronian’s Prep Athletes of the Week were selected based on their performances during the week of Sept. 1-7. Coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to submit nominations to sports editor Juan Reyes at jr****@*****ys.com.

Boys

Joseph Dayritt (Sr.), St. Francis: The speedy Shark tailback racked up a game-best 226 rushing yards to go along with a pair of touchdowns on 14 carries in St. Francis’ 28-8 victory over cross-town rival Pajaro Valley in non-league play Sept. 6.

Dayritt currently leads St. Francis with 323 total rushing yards and four touchdowns, according to statistics on the Monterey Bay Preps website. Next up, the Sharks (2-0) host Pacific Grove (2-0, 1-0) in non-league action on Sept. 20 at 12:30pm.

Girls

Maya Calfee (Jr.), St. Francis: The all-around Shark two-way player put up some incredible numbers in the span of three games, including a performance that featured five total touchdowns in St. Francis’ 47-0 blowout win over Redlands on Sept. 5.

Calfee finished with a game-best 156 receiving yards and four TDs on eight receptions, and tossed a 25-yard touchdown. She also recorded one interception and six flag pulls on defense.

According to the Monterey Bay Preps website, Calfee currently leads the Pacific Coast Athletic League with 817 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 54 receptions, and nine interceptions this season. 

Next up, St. Francis (5-1, 4-0) plays at Watsonville (1-3, 0-3) in PCAL Gabilan Division action Wednesday at 5:45pm.
