A 51-year-old male bicyclist died early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of South Green Valley Road and Carey Avenue.

Watsonville Police said the bicyclist, who has not been identified, died at the hospital Wednesday night.

The crash happened shortly after 6am. The male driver then reportedly fled the scene. But using the city’s Flock Safety Cameras, officers tracked down the driver of a white 2000 Dodge Durango that struck the cyclist.

The driver has since cooperated with the investigation, and the Durango has been seized as evidence.

“We are actively working with the Santa Cruz District Attorney’s Office to determine the charges that will be filed against the driver,” WPD stated in a press release. “At this time, we are not releasing additional details about the driver in order to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Watsonville Police Officer Dominic Changco at 831.889.8452.
