A man was arrested Thursday night on the 700 block of Palm Avenue on suspicion of attempted murder.

With the help of SWAT officers Watsonville Police tracked down Francisco Aceves, 25, on suspicion of shooting a 42-year-old man at the Sofspra Car Wash on the 400 block of East Lake Avenue Wednesday morning.

The victim is currently in stable condition, WPD said.

Watsonville Police initially got a call about a person being shot inside the car wash around 9:45am Wednesday. WPD officers and detectives were quick to arrive and set up a crime scene with yellow tape and lock down nearby E.A. Hall Middle School and Mintie White Elementary schools.

On Thursday night WPD teamed up with SWAT and drone teams, the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, Santa Cruz Police Emergency Services Unit and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office to serve a search warrant on the 700 block of Palm Avenue, where Aceves, who tried to flee the scene on foot, was chased down and arrested.

He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on attempted murder and resisting arrest charges.
