The Reggie Stephens Foundation this weekend will continue a long-standing tradition of highlighting the top high school talent from the region.
A group of Santa Cruz County’s finest is set to take on the best Monterey County has to offer in the 13th annual Central Coast All-Star Basketball Game at Marina High on Sunday.
The classic North versus South showdown will feature three marquee matchups starting with the 8th grade boys all-star game at noon.
The high school senior girls all-star game is scheduled for 2pm, while the senior boys all-star game is set for a 4pm tipoff.
It’s been 13 years since RSF founder Reggie Stephens, a former New York Giants defensive back and local community leader, put together the annual all-star game.
Today, it is a Central Coast tradition that highlights dedication, leadership and sportsmanship among young athletes.
“For 13 years, this game has been about celebrating the kids and their journey,” Stephens said in a press release. “These student-athletes have worked hard representing their schools and communities. This event gives them one more chance to compete, be recognized and enjoy a special moment together.”
According to the press release, the event is directed by Stan White II, who has helped organize and grow the showcase into one of the region’s premier youth basketball events.
This year’s all-star game will also serve as a fundraiser for Marina High’s athletic programs, giving the community an opportunity to support local athletics while celebrating the accomplishments of student-athletes across the Central Coast.
In the press release, RSF thanked Marina High boys basketball head coach July Barredo for helping make this year’s event possible through a new partnership with the Marina Elite traveling basketball program.
RSF remains committed to empowering youth through sports, arts, education and culture, encouraging student-athletes to live by its guiding philosophy: Seek, Believe, Achieve.
“Through his leadership and dedication to youth development, Barredo and the Marina Elite program continue to create opportunities for young athletes in the region.”
