The Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds Foundation is looking for volunteers to plant flowers for this year’s fair. Every year volunteers help plant more than 2,300 flower starters that will be in full bloom at fair time.

“We will be planting red, white and blue petunias as well as marigolds and State Fair zinnias,” said fair spokesman Ron Haedicke. “Come be a part of this fun family and volunteer project.”

A workday is scheduled for July 23. Planting will begin at 4:30pm. Hotdogs and other refreshments will be served afterwards.

“We welcome all ages,” Haedicke said. “Rakes and hoses will be provided, however if you have a favorite garden trowel, please bring it along.”

Volunteers are asked to RSVP to the Fairgrounds Foundation office at 831.786.9698 or via email at su*****@********************on.org in order to plan for the necessary refreshments.
