A Watsonville man was arrested Friday morning after he reportedly threatened people with a knife.
Juan Carlos Aparicio, 23, was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail, where he is facing charges for brandishing a weapon, trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
He was not in custody Sunday afternoon, jail records showed.
Watsonville Police responded to the 100 block of Rodriguez Street around 7:30am after receiving reports of a man making threats.`
When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Aparicio sitting in a small children’s pool.
Officers tried talking with him and asked him to come out, but he refused. A crisis negotiator arrived and started a dialogue with Aparicio.
Meanwhile, police deployed a drone to get an aerial view of the scene.
After more than 30 minutes, Aparicio continued reaching toward his pocket and ignored officers’ commands. Police then learned he had armed himself with a pair of scissors, leading officers to shoot him with balls filled with pepper spray to try to get him to surrender, but he continued to ignore their commands. Officers then used a taser, allowing them to take him into custody.
