The annual Mexican Independence Day Festival is set for Sunday in downtown Watsonville Sunday. Put on by Fiestas Patrias, the free event will feature live music, food booths, arts and crafts and information tables spread out around Watsonville Plaza and surrounding streets.
This year the popular band Los Fugitivos will hit the stage at 2pm.
The holiday, also known as El Grito de la Independencia (Cry of Independence), is held annually on Sept. 16 in honor of Mexico’s declaration of independence from Spanish rule in 1810.
The festival runs Sept. 13 from 11am to 5pm.
